What is a turbinoplasty?
Patients with chronic or severe allergies, a chronic stuffy nose, snoring, nasal breathing difficulties, or obstructive sleep apnea often have enlarged nasal turbinates. There are three pairs of nasal turbinates in the nasal passageway, where they filter, warm, and humidify incoming air before it enters the upper respiratory tract. Carefully reducing the size of the nasal turbinates helps to open a blocked nasal passageway without compromising their important function. There are two options for downsizing nasal turbinates:

1.  Turbinoplasty, a minimally invasive procedure that provides relief from nasal obstruction associated with nasal breathing difficulties, snoring, and obstructive sleep apnea. This technique requires general anaesthesia and is often combined with a nasal septoplasty to maximize the benefits.

2.  Turbinate reduction, a minimally invasive alternative that can be performed under local anaesthesia in the ENTinCayman office.

What does turbinoplasty involve?

We use special tools to examine the the nasal passageways and determine whether turbinate reduction is the best treatment for your condition.

What are the advantages of turbinoplasty?
It is a minimally invasive technique that quickly improves breathing. The post-operative recovery period is short, so patients can resume normal activities very soon after the procedure

Turbinoplasty is sometimes combined with nasal septoplasty. In most cases, patients can go home a few hours after the surgery.
