Understanding Hearing Loss
Hearing loss can be something that happens suddenly if you’re exposed to a loud sound or bang. It can also happen slowly over a long period of time, which is often the case with age-related hearing loss. Understanding hearing loss is an important first step towards doing something about it.
What is Hearing Loss?
Hearing loss means you have lost the ability to hear certain sounds. Maybe you can no longer hear high-pitched tones, like the voices of women or children. Or maybe you can’t pick out a single voice if there is a lot of conversation in the background.
Sometimes hearing loss is temporary, like a ringing in your ears after a noisy concert. Most often, it is permanent because the mechanisms that help you hear have been damaged. Most loss is considered to be sensorineural, which is hearing nerve loss. Another type of hearing loss is conductive, which is middle ear related and requires a visit to an ENT doctor for further evaluation.
Treating Hearing Loss
Sensorineural Hearing loss doesn’t have to affect your lifestyle. Modern technology offers a wide range of options for treating hearing loss, like hearing aids, that allow you to live life to the fullest. Made with state-of-the-art design and technology, hearing aids are durable and easy to operate.
Used regularly, they will allow you to enjoy your surroundings in a whole new way. However, if your hearing loss is conductive (Abnormal middle ear function) you will need to be evaluated by an ENT doctor prior to considering hearing aids.
Most conductive losses can be medically treated.
Innovative Hearing Aids
Your hearing experience should address your unique needs. ReSound hearing aids, wireless accessories and apps help you to hear and adapt to different environments and situations with the best sound quality.
Types of Hearing Aids
The type of hearing loss you have, your lifestyle and your personal preferences in color and style will all influence the hearing aids you ultimately purchase. Most modern hearing aids use Bluetooth technology to connect directly to a smartphone allowing personalization through an app. Think about being able to adjust the volume of your hearing aids or switching programs without having to reach up behind your ear.
